Public Masses Resume!

Did you hear the great news? Public Masses will resume in the Davenport Dioceses on Monday, June 22, 2020. We are very excited to welcome everyone back to Mass. However, this must be done safely. Please see the document, ‘How To Sign Up for Mass,’ for a step by step guide.

Every household wishing to attend a Mass of Sunday will have to follow the set-out guidelines in order to reserve a seat. You are welcome to attend your normal Mass of Sunday, be that at Pella or Oskaloosa. Due to the limited number of seating available, we are asking that each household only sign up for one Mass a month at this time.

Weekday Mass will also be resuming with a new schedule.

                • Tuesday – 8 am, SMO
                • Wednesday – 12:15 pm, SMP
                • Thursday – 7 am, SMO
                • Friday – 8:30 am, SMP

At this time you do NOT need to sign up for weekday Masses. This may change in the future, as there are a limited number of seats available.

Our first Masses of Sunday will be offered on June 27th and 28th. The Sign up for all Masses of Sunday for the month of June and July will open on Monday, June 22. Please read the included document to find out more about signing up via the internet or by calling the parish office.

We all look forward to welcoming you back to Mass at St. Mary’s!

Meet Fr. Troy Richmond!

SMO/SMP I share a statement that I have entitled, “Meet Fr. Troy Richmond”.  It is a copy of his curriculum vitae as it appeared in the April 2nd “The Catholic Messenger” with my editorial comment shared between the lines.
Meet Fr. Troy Richmond
Fr. Troy Richmond, 45 –  youth returns to SMO/SMP – as of July 1, 2020 will serve as pastor of SMO/SMP.  An Ottumwa native – as is Radar O’Reilly as MASH devotees would know – he graduated from Iowa State University with a BA in music. –   Go Cyclones!  –  I can’t wait for the battle of the grand piano and the trumpet with Lynn at her ivorys playing the Nebraska fight song and Fr. Troy on his trumpet playing the ISU fight song as a closing hymn should these teams meet up in a contest as Fr. Troy played in the ISU Marching Band.  –  I think it is just fine for Fr. Troy to blow his own trumpet – He studied pre-theology at St. Ambrose – my Alma Mater (72) and later during the SAU days of Deb, SMP Faith Formation Director and Jeff Menke of SMP – and completed his theological studies at Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois.  He was ordained to the priesthood June 14, 2003 by Bishop Franklin – I was at the cathedral that day – Fr. Richmond previously served as parochial vicar at St. Patrick Parish and St. Mary of the Visitation Parish, Ottumwa; – I was pleased to be Fr. Troy’s first pastor and yes, he went on yet to live a normal priestly life – he went on as a parochial vicar at Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish, Muscatine and St. Joseph Parish, Columbus Junction; St. Mary Parish, Wilton; administrator of Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, Muscatine; parochial vicar, administrator, and then pastor of Ss. Mary and Joseph  Parish, Sacred Heart Parish, Fort Madison (now Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison) and pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Montrose; and Pastor of St. James Parish, Washington prior to his service as pastor at Ss. Mary and Mathas, Muscatine since 2014 and as pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Columbus Junction since 2018. – A number of Fr. Troy’s assignments have drawn on his Spanish Language facility and this will be a blessing to the Spanish speaking members of SMO/SMP –  His overall pastoral experience in his 17 years as a priest having served as a parochial vicar and pastor will serve well his pastoral ministry at SMO/SMP.  I am truly pleased that Fr. Troy who was for me as a pastor, my first pastoral vicar is now, as a pastor to be my successor as pastor at SMO/SMP.  As the ole Latin blessing goes:  Fr. Troy, Ad Multos Annos! -To Many Years – Fr. John

Welcome Fr. Troy Richmond

Effective July 1st, Fr. Troy Richmond is assigned as pastor of St. Mary Parish, Oskaloosa and St. Mary Parish, Pella. As of July 1st Fr. Troy is relieved of his current assignment as pastor of Saints Mary & Mathias Parish, Muscatine and St. Joseph Parish, Columbus Junction.  Fr. Troy is the son of Sherry Richmond and the late Gary Richmond of Ottumwa, Iowa.  Fr. Troy was ordained for the Diocese of Davenport by Bishop Wm. E. Franklyn, D.D. in 2003. I am pleased to share this brief notice of Fr. Troy’s assignment with my parishes of SMO/SMP.  I look forward to offering more of an introduction of Fr. Troy next weekend.  Let us pray for Fr. Troy as he comes to take leave of the parishes, he has served as pastor for six years and as he prepares to come to all of us at SMO/SMP as our pastor.
