OCIA stands for “Order of Christian Initiation of Adults” (formerly RCIA). Sponsors aid in the formation of OCIA candidates and catechumens. They help to answer questions about the Catholic Faith and provide support throughout the process. Sponsors represent the parish community and assist the larger Church in preparing the catechumen for baptism, testify to his or her faith, and promise to assist him or her in living the Catholic faith.
